Inspired by the Carrington Event of 1859, a powerful geomagnetic solar storm which let off a solar coronal mass ejection that hit Earth's magnetosphere and induced one of the largest geomagnetic storms on record. if this were to happen today it works cause a momentous amount of difficult with technology. It actually did in 2012 but missed Earths orbit.
